Messiahfied

OK, so after having attended a performance of the famous Christmas oratorio, Handel's Messiah, this Sunday, I have to say, I am kind of really almost totally obsessed. The songs have been playing out in my head for four days running.

It's really amazing, I'm not going to lie. I'm sure you've heard the Hallelujah chorus before (usually right when a flash of inspiration or good luck strikes the hero of a movie or TV show), but the entirety of the piece is pure brilliance and simply staggering. Give it a listen, really. It will put you in the Christmas mood, if you have a soul at all.

Just kidding about the soul part. But seriously…

My favorite has to be Every Valley Shall be Exalted tenor solo. Wow. Awesome. Have a listen.

Handel, you talented devil.

J&J Holiday Party Invite

I've been interning at the Johnson & Johnson Global Strategic Design Office and have had the privilege of working with some amazingly talented designers on some high-profile beauty brands. It's pretty awesome. I'm learning a lot, making new friends, and having tons of fun doing it.

I was asked to design the internal invitation to the office holiday party. The only direction I got was "winter wonderland – very chic."

So with that, this is the design I ended up with. I got the idea for the bottles from a coworker, Henry. I had originally decided on using wine bottles and glasses—it's a cocktail party, after all—but the proprietary packaging gives it a much stronger concept and visual interest too.

Bottoms up!

iPad Drawings

Here are some drawings I've done using the Autodesk Sketchbook Pro app on my iPad. It's pretty awesome—though it's still so unnatural to draw with my finger tip.

Now if only someone would come out with a pressure sensitive iPad stylus, I'm sure they would become rich beyond their wildest dreams.

Back to basics.

OK, so I'm back using blogger after my foray into the tumblr scene. Why, you ask? Well, there were a number of issues from the beginning, but I decided to quit after I discovered that I couldn't post an image any larger than 1024x720. How useless is that? Come on!

Now that I'm back, I hope you'll excuse my lack of content. I pretty much wiped out my old blog, since it got clobbered by spammers. You can see some of the content of my tumblr blog here.

Also, a note on the subject matter of this blog. I'm going to treat this like a journal. An artist's journal: full of my latest inspirations, thoughts, quips, failures, triumphs…oh, and maybe some artwork. This isn't my online portfolio, so please don't judge me when you see the crap that's coming. I'm just working out the kinks.

That said, here's a sketch from my new home, in the Big Apple. Enjoy. More to come. Stay tuned.
